Ho...Ho...Ho...

Well.... it is this time of the year again.
Got your red hat ready and filled your fridge with all the
goodies? great... Some presents?....of course, haven't
you heard it is  Christmas!
Many, me included, like to make Christmas gifts using
items relating to the fine arts, especially when dealing
with the younger members of our families and friends,
for this is a good way to engender an early love for the
arts. Recently, while I was on the look out for such
items in the various shops I’ve come to notice a new
deluge of glossy, “arty” calendars that always seem to
be prominently displayed for the customer at every turn.
Taking a good look was really a disappointment for
just about all of them had this visual clichés that have,
sadly, become associated with Australia. Repetition of
these images ad infinitum has but reached the critical stage
of causing a reversed effect. Why don’t such publishers
draw on the great and varied heritage of Australian art
to give the general public at large the chance to sample
some really great, locally grown art? Is it the royalties’
cost for the right to reproduce such works? or is it the
wrong assumption on the behalf of these publishers,
that most people don’t want to know or don’t care so
long it is something filling that space on the wall or
whatever. I really can’t understand it.

I think there is a genuine need in our society for wider
publication and distribution of Australian art,
contemporary modern art in particular. I also think that
younger and emerging artists could vastly benefit from
such an undertaking and it wouldn't cost the earth either.
Those big-wigs presiding over the fat establishment's
soulless hierarchy, surely could spare some of the money
that is wasted on stupid so called arts projects to give
some of these emerging artists a chance to have their
work becoming more known to the common man.
How about it dear officialdom overseers and eternal
custodians of the holy purse?.....
It is Christmas after all.

On a different note, though.....
I like to wish each and everyone of you dear readers
a very happy and safe Christmas and many thanks for
your continued contributions and support.
We’ll see you in the February’s edition as we are having
some R&R right through January.
So, once again, all the best to you and ENJOY!
